Hey WOB, are you and HOB going to be in France sometime this summer? I’m going to be there with the folks at Via Lucis for a few days this May but might be back in June. Given our mutual enthusiasm for all things Romanesque it could be fun to rendezvous somewhere! Ciao!
No, unfortunately we won’t be in France this summer–I wish we could rendezvous with Via Lucis to indulge our mutual love of the Romanesque. We won’t have a chance to return until early 2015. Where will you go in France?
I’m going to be following Dennis and PJ around the Ardeche region and go south to Provence with them, but this is only for like 5 days. I might be back sometime later this summer with a cousin but I want to be somewhere that’s not stiflingly hot, so I’m hoping to be in Scandinavia for the majority of my time there.
I’ve never been to to the Ardech region so look forward to reading your posts about it. Scandinavia sounds perfect, but isn’t it quite expense, esp. in the summer? Do you plan to couchsurf?
Thanks for the following..am to travel on a holiday, knapsnack style across Europe. Will see all the important places through your blog first before I plan.
Thanks for your comment learnersojourner–I had been meaning to write a post about my alter ego, The Wife of Bath, and you’ve encouraged me to do it soon!
I’m really enjoying your blog! Love your alter ego Wife of Bath too! Maybe you’re an English major like me. I notice you mention where you’ve stayed–great practical info for budget but discriminating travelers!
Your introduction strikes me a lot, cause I sense we have the same feeling about the way we travel:) I’m a traveler too, and always on a budget, but it doesn’t stop me from traveling the more I can!
I’m going to have my second trip on the road in the USA. I had a beautiful experience last August all around California and Arizona, so I want to do it again. I’m starting from Chicago and I’m going to end the trip in Atlanta! Hopefully I’m going to write an article in a while:)
Hi, saw your blog on the recommended list by WordPress and I love it. I don’t see that you’ve been to the Philippines though so just sending you a little note in case it comes up in your bucket list for 2015. Here are my blogs for your reference – https://backpackingincebuphilippines.wordpress.com & misunderstood33.blogspot.com.
Hi rastafari369. No, I haven’t been to the Philippines yet, but I’d love to visit soon. I live close by a Philippian bakery and market, so I already know I love the food! Thanks for letting me know about your cool blogs!
Greetings, Mrs. WoB! I’m Yanti from Indonesia, a rather new follower of your blog. I’m really excited to start reading more travel posts here. Thank you for sharing!
Greetings Yanti! I see you are an architect–that must be a fascinating job. Hopefully I won’t make too many mistakes when writing about architecture here, but if I do, please correct me.
Dear WOB, thanks so much for liking my very first post! I first found your writing while looking for blogs I want to follow. I looked at many, and I loved yours. I look forward to your continuing travel adventures, and thank you for writing in a way that makes me feel as if I’m a friend back home. 🙂
Just started following your blog, and started my own blog as well. I’m leaving for Florence in 17 days, with a friend, and we will be there for 9 days so I’m very excited, Have visited there before, but not for this long at a stretch, so I’m looking forward to be able to spend some time really exploring.
I just came across your blog and read your post about the Camino- how beautiful! Have you traveled to eastern Europe? There are a plethora of beautiful churches here (I’m an American expat in Lviv, Ukraine)- and it’s definitely budget friendly here!
Thank you bridgetdonofrio! Yes, I have been to Eastern Europe, but I’d like to visit again soon. Actually, I’ll be in Romania this spring. Have you had a chance to visit Romania (not too far from Ukriane)? Any advice for me?
You write so well, it makes me want to get the hang of this, thank you for blog. And for being a fellow traveler, I hope to encourage a global community with my travels and experiences.
You were lucky to have a chance to live there JohnRH. I haven’t visited Bath, but I am curious from reading Jane Austen and of course Chaucer—the created of my literary mentor.

I love your blog post about Naples, although I am also a bit dubious about ‘See Naples and die’! I am there for two weeks and am so excited to see all the history of it, and obviously eat as much pizza as humanly possible! I’m heading round the world later this year on a shoe string budget so I’m looking forward to going through all your posts for tips and tricks!
Hi Emily–thanks for the compliment! I hope you love Naples–it has the most unique energy of any place I’ve ever visited. I wholeheartedly support your pizza eating plan.
Hi there fellow traveler!
While exploring websites and blogs for inspiration, I found yours, and I have noticed how fantastic and inspiring it is! 🙂
I also like to travel, if only I could and had the power to do it more often! That’s why I and my companion had the idea to create something different in our country, Portugal – which I noticed that you haven’t visited yet.
If you ever come to Portugal, contact us. I think you would like our experiences 😉
Your blog is one of the most authentic ones I have seen so far! Really not many travel bloggers take the time and effort to BE there where they are and this “culture in situ” seems to be a foreign concept for the most of them.
Bravo!
October should be a great time to travel in France. Did you mean to say you were going Northwest towards Germany? If so, would you be going to Alsace? That is a lovely area. Strasbourg has great architecture and food, and in Colmar you can see the bizarre and fascinating Isenheim altarpiece.
We only have enough time for Rothenburg der Taber (I might have spelled this wrong.) We spent 2 days in Strausborg and loved it. Yes, I noticed their version of sauerkraut, kugelhof, etc.
In a picnic I love to eat what you can find on the road, it becomes even more interesting, because for a picnic I love to ride a bike! Well, I love most everything that grows in the garden or field. Though I don’t really like to make this dish, as I like to have everything separated – it is much more useful and so better to feel the taste quality of each individual fruit or vegetable
Unfortunately, not yet. We plan to go when my kids are older. My parents are from the east of Croatia near Osijek. ( They have been back a half a dozen times since the war). We have plenty of family there and along the coast in Split.
Wonderful! Delightful!
